Voting for Executive Committee position starting January 2020 is now open for EAS Individual members via this website-based ballot, according to the Society's bylaws. A member of the Society has be selected by the Executive Committee to monitor and review the election results for accuracy.Voting is open from 02-30 September, 2019.

Voting - Please read carefully before starting

  • Please note that voting is restricted to Individual EAS members. To be eligible to vote, your membership must be current, and subscription payments must be up to date.

  • You will need to log in to access the voting webpage.

  • Vote by clicking on the "Begin survey" button at the bottom of the voting webpage.

  • You will be asked to select your preferred candidate for each of the two vacant positions.

  • You may only vote once. Once it has been submitted, you may not retract your vote.

  • Deadline for voting is end of the day, September 30, 2019.

The nominations  for candidates to positions on the EAS Executive Committee starting January 2020 have been reviewed by the Election Committee, chaired by Professor John Chapman, former EAS President. According to the Society bylaws §5(c)(i), and in line with the Society's status as a non-profit organisation based in Sweden, it is the responsibility of the Election Committee to independently select from the nominations a shortlist of candidates for election.

Positions becoming vacant on January 01, 2020

  • President Elect. The elected candidate will assume the President Elect position working alongside President Lale Tokgozoglu, Turkey, during 2020, then take on the Society Presidency on January 01, 2021 for a term of four years. 
  • Executive Committee Member (Outgoing Officer, Christoph Binder, Austria). The elected candidate will begin a four-year term as a member of the Executive Committee, starting January 01, 2020.

Voting is open from September 02-30 for EAS members only. The results from the Elections will be announced in October.

Nominations welcome from EAS members for candidates for the vacant position in the Executive Committee

Deadline for nominations was April 30, 2019.
May Election Committee review the nominations and make a shortlist of candidates
June - August Biographies of shortlisted candidates on EAS website

September 02-30 VOTING || EAS individual (full) members may vote (online ballot, via Society website)
October The result of the vote is verified by independent reviewer, approved by the Executive Committee and announced to the Society membership

Ideal candidate profile President-Elect

Position President - Elect

Duties

As a Society Officer, together with the other Officers, the President has Power of Signature for the Society.

The Society President leads the strategic development of the Society's activities, including:

  • participation in face to face meetings (3 per year) plus monthly conference calls with the Executive Committee, plus weekly calls with the Administrative office.
  • with the other Society Officers, responsibility to plan the Society’s annual budget & supervise the Society’s Administrative Office’s handling of Society’s finances
  • participation in the Society's General Assembly at Congress; collective responsibility for the Society's finances with other Executive Committee members

Ideal candidate profile

The candidate:
  • must be a committed and active member of EAS and should have regularly attended EAS meetings
  • must have been closely involved with EAS activities, with a good understanding of the Society’s structures and functions; it is an advantage to have served in the Executive Committee
  • should be internationally well-known and actively involved in research in the atherosclerosis field
  • should have an excellent scientific record
  • should have excellent connections and working relations with major players in the field at international level (scientific societies, pharmaceutical companies etc.)
  • should have excellent communication skills
  • must be prepared to work closely with the EAS Vice President and Past President
  • must be willing and able to give his/her time to the Society
  • should have a high degree of commitment to prepare and attend Executive Committee meetings

  • should have an excellent scientific record and be a high-profile expert in his/her field
