EAS Advanced Course on Epidemiology and Genetics of Atherosclerosis and Causality of Risk Factors, 2018

This course is now available on the EAS ACADEMY website. The course gives an updated overview on several aspects of lipoproteins and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The genetics are discussed in detail with new data from the epidemiological studies in Copenhagen. An in-depth update is given on current knowledge about biomarkers for cardiovascular disease with focus on lipoproteins. EAS Advanced Course on Atherothrombosis, 2017

The advanced course on Atherothrombosis that was held in Vienna in November 2017 provided a comprehensive overview of the basic principles of atherothrombosis as well the vascular alterations leading to it. Both clinical and basic science experts gave stimulating presentations on topics ranging from vascular inflammation to plaque vulnerability and clinical aspects of atherothrombosis. The contribution of the vessel wall and plaque composition as well as the role of all major vascular cells and humoral factors in atherothrombosis were discussed. Finally, novel concepts such as immunothrombosis, the role of the gut microbiome, as well as systemsbiology approaches in cardiovascular medicine were presented.

EAS Advanced Course in Precision Medicine in Atherosclerosis, 2017

This course takes precision medicine into the field of atherosclerosis. The starting point is the question whether precision medicine is an unmet need or just a fashion? The question is discussed from several perspectives. How can genetics help to make treatment more specific? What does new biomarkers add to improve diagnosis? Will new imaging techniques result in new possibilities to identify disease. Can new methods help to personalize therapy and can we direct therapy with precision to more specific targets? In this course these subjects are discussed by a number of researchers in the front line of this scientific area.
