Dear EAS members, colleagues and friends,

As President of the European Atherosclerosis Society, I would like to express appreciation for the efforts of our Society members who, as health professionals and researchers, are working to care for patients and manage the COVID-19 crisis, one of the biggest challenges that health systems and societies have faced in modern times.

As you know, we have taken the decision to change the dates of our annual Congress to October 4th-7th. The meeting stays in Geneva, and the program format remains unchanged. We have already received commitment to attend from more than 80% of the invited speakers. Meanwhile, Society’s annual Members’ General Assembly will take the form of an online meeting this year in June.

The Society’s Executive Committee and I are working hard to continue to provide the educational activities on which our members depend to keep up to date with developments in research and clinical practice in our field. With the restrictions on travel and meetings currently in force, we have made the presentations recorded at our 2019 Congress in Maastricht available Open Access on our educational platform, EAS Academy. We encourage everyone – members and non-members - to explore this educational resource.

We this week open a call for nominations to positions in the Executive Committee. There are a total of six positions open for election during 2020 – three officer positions - Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer-Elect, as well as three Executive Committee member positions. You will find details on the Society website. I’d like to encourage members to take this opportunity to engage in EAS as an officer or member of the Executive Committee.

As we look to the future, when these difficult times are behind us, we will need more than ever a strong leadership team to develop and implement activities that fulfil our Society’s mission to exchange and promote knowledge in the field of atherosclerosis. For now, I encourage all EAS members to stand firm and continue their committed fight against COVID-19. I hope all of you stay safe, keep healthy, positive, and know that through all of this you have our support.
