In 2019 the EAS Executive Committee felt the need to define in detail the processes for the Society's election; these will be implemented from 2020.

The Executive Committee (EC) will appoint the Chair of the Election Committee (ELCOM), and for the first time, the Society's members will be engaged in the selection of its members.

Governing principles

The definition of procedures allows us to respect the following:

  • The right of the EC to be considered the highest representative organ of the Society
  • The right of the ELCOM to make an independent decision that can't be overruled by the EC
  • The right of the ELCOM to total discretion
  • The right for the EC and ELCOM to have the possibility to an official dialogue on the visions & strategies for the EAS, but in a form that recognizes the independence of the respective committees
  • The right of the Society’s membership base to be involved in determination of the composition of the ELCOM

Procedures 2020

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Chris Packard, Glasgow, UK, as Chair of the Election Committee. He will have the task to present a list of candidates.

Members will be invited to vote, to select from these candidates their preferred representatives on the Election Committee.

The vote will take place in March via the Society website.

Once selected, the members of the Election Committee will handle the election of members and officers to the Society's Executive Committee during 2020.

Please note that there are a number of positions on the Society's Executive becoming vacant during 2020. Society members will be invited to nominate prospective candidates during April 2020.

A member of the election committee will not be eligible to run for an EC position.
