Announcing the Anitschkow Award recipient 2020

The European Atherosclerosis Society is pleased to announce Professor Joseph L. Witztum as the recipient of the 2020 Anitschkow Award.

The 2020 award recognizes Professor Joseph L. Witztum for his exceptional contributions to the field of atherosclerosis and lipid metabolism which reach from basic research and clinical therapies. Throughout his exceptional career, he has made several seminal discoveries, including the role of oxidized LDL in innate immunity, the role of Lp(a) as a carrier of oxidation-specific epitopes.

In addition to being an outstanding scientist, Professor Witztum is a benevolent and generous teacher, who has also further contributed to the atherosclerosis field by mentoring scientists who themselves have gone on to become internationally recognised senior scientists and professors.

Professor Joseph L. Witztum will present the 2020 Anitschkow Lecture as part of the Opening Ceremony at EAS Congress Geneva, Switzerland May 31, 2020.
