“Today as the World joins together to raise awareness for FH awareness, a genetic condition affecting millions which is underdiagnosed and undertreated, we remember our friend, colleague and tireless advocate Gaby Hanauer-Mader from FH Austria.

We would like to acknowledge her work and dedicate this message from the EAS to her, celebrating her life, work and achievements. Gaby was a mother, a wife and a friend to the EAS. When the FH Studies Collaboration was launched she was one of the first protagonists who quickly saw the potential for patient advocacy groups to work in partnerships with scientific societies. Together with the EAS she helped foster relationships and helped develop FH Europe a large patient advocacy group which now extends beyond continental Europe. In May she spoke at the WHO alongside others making the case for global screening for cholesterol.

Whilst we mourn her passing, we celebrate her life her spirit and her achievements. The journey to better care for FH is closer because of the life she lived.”
