Introducing Featured Open Lectures

This is a new initiative from the Society to highlight our online educational platform EAS ACADEMY. Every other month we select one interesting lecture from a recent course or congress and make it available for free, to members and non-members.

Open Lecture September/October 2019

Estamating risk: What’s new?Risk Prediction for Add on Lipid Modulating Therapy? EAS Academy, Professor Kausik Ray, Imperial College, London, UK.

This lecture was given during the EAS congress 2019 in Maastricht. The lecture was given by Professor Kausik K. Ray who is Professor of Public Health and Consultant Cardiologist at Imperial College in London.

In this lecture Professor Ray discusses risk prediction and especially focuses on the interaction between relative risk and absolute risk. To understand the difference between these risk estimates, and how these are affected by factors such as risk absolute risk level, basal plasma LDL-cholesterol and time is very important and often difficult to comprehend. In this lecture Professor Ray makes us understand these interactions and also emphasizes the importance of understanding the risk estimations and considering the influence of other factors on the absolute risk reduction
