Professor Kausik K. Ray (Imperial Centre for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention, Department of Primary Care and Public Health, Imperial College London, UK) discusses the importance of early diagnosis of familial hypercholesterolemia. A study involving over 1.7 million health records in the general population showed that undiagnosed people lose 16 years of life compared with those with a diagnosis.
