Structure, Membership and Governing Bodies

The members and officers of the Society are, and have always been, leaders in basic and clinical research in the field of atherosclerosis. The Society’s expertise has been used to teach clinicians how to manage lipid disorders and how to prevent atherosclerosis. In recent years the Society has made a particular effort to recruit young scientists and clinicians also from other related disciplines.

The EAS consists of ordinary members (resident in Europe), corresponding members (resident outside Europe), honorary members (specially invited distinguished members) and corporate members. The members elect a Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer as well as four other Members to serve as the EAS Executive Committee. The Society is run according to the articles set out in its Constitution.

The administration of the Society is handled by Dr Carmel Hayes; the EAS Administrative Office is situated in Gothenburg, Sweden.
