Andrea Mezzetti M.D. is Professor of Internal Medicine at the University "G. d'Annunzio" School of Medicine in Chieti, Italy. Dr. Mezzetti, born 1949, received his M.D. degree from the University of Bologna, Italy (Summa cum laude).
Since 2000 he has been Director of the Lipid and Hypertension Clinic of the Department of Medicine & Aging at the University Hospital, in Chieti. Since 2000 he has served as Dean of the Faculty of Nursing Science and has been Director of the Postgraduate School of Internal Medicine at the same University. Since November 2002 Andrea Mezzetti is also Director of the Clinical Research Center, University "G. d'Annunzio" Foundation in Chieti.
He is a member of numerous prestigious Societies, including the European Atherosclerosis Society, the Council on Atherosclerosis and Thrombosis of the American Heart Association, the American Society of Hypertension, the Italian Arteriosclerosis Society (member of the National Council), and the European Society of Cardiology. He is an established reviewer for Cardiovascular Research, Circulation, Diabetes Care and JAMA. Dr Mezzetti’s research areas include hypertension, dyslipidemia and Atherosclerosis. He has secured numerous research grants and published widely on these topics.
At the moment Dr. Mezzetti’s research is focused on the role of oxidative stress and inflammation in the development of the atherosclerotic plaque and in the mechanisms leading to plaque instability and rupture. In this field, he has given relevant contributions on the role of arachidonate pathway enzymes (COX2 and PGE synthase) and angiotensin II in the pathophysiology of atherosclerotic plaque instability. |
