Biography
Alberico L. Catapano is Full Professor of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Pharmacy at the
University of Milano in the Department of Pharmacological Sciences. He is also Director of the Center for the Study of Atherosclerosis in Milan, Italy. Prof. Catapano is an active investigator in the biochemical and genetic causes of atherosclerosis, cellular metabolism of lipoproteins, biochemical and molecular defects in atherogenesis, lipid lowering drugs, and clinical trials with anti-atherosclerotic drugs.
A long standing member of the EAS, he is also currently member of the EAS Executive Committee. In addition to his involvement in the EAS, Prof. Catapano is a distinguished Fellow of the International Society of Atherosclerosis and a Professional Member of the AHA.
Actively involved in Italy, he is the President of the Italian Society for Clinical and Experimental Therapeutics and the President of the Lombardy Chapter of the Italian Society for the Study of Atherosclerosis ( and member of their national EC ). He also coordinates the Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology group of the Italian Society of Cardiology.
Professor Catapano has been co-organizer of a number of international meetings, and scientific secretary of the DALM meetings. Prof. Catapano is the author of more than 200 papers in peer reviewed journals and the editor of 12 books on lipids, lipoprotein metabolism and Atherosclerosis.
