Andrei Sposito is Professor of Cardiology and Coordinator of the Laboratory of Atherosclerosis and Vascular Biology at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Brazil. He graduated as MD at the Federal University of Bahia and made his residency training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the University of São Paulo Medicine School (USP). He awarded PhD degree in atherosclerosis and made his post-doctorate at the University of Paris VI, Paris, France. In 2008, he was awarded Professor Habilitation in Cardiology at the USP and in the last 7 years he has been awarded for research productivity by The Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). Currently, he is Member of the Regional Executive Committee for the Americas of the International Atherosclerosis Society (IAS), Visiting Professor at the Universitá degli Studi di Parma. He was Chairman of the Department of Atherosclerosis of the Brazilian Society of Cardiology from 2008 to 2010 and Editor of the IV Brazilian Guideline for Prevention of Atherosclerosis. He has been Reviewer for several high standard journals and his publications include chapters in Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine and Braunwald's Heart Disease.
