Professor Ulrich Laufs is Professor for Clinical and Experimental Medicine and Vice Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Angiology and Intensive Medicine at the University of Saarland, Homburg, Germany.
Laufs completed his training at the University of Bochum and Hamburg, and did his residency at the University of Köln. After spending 2 years at the Cardiovascular Division of Brigham and Women´s Hospital, Boston, he undertook his fellowships at the University of Köln and the University of Saarland.
Professor Laufs works as interventional cardiologist and heads a research group with special focus on the molecular mechanisms and clinical studies of cardiovascular prevention. UL is head of the lipid clinic at the University hospital. He has received numerous honours including the Population Sciences Award of the European Society of Cardiology and the Albert-Fraenkel-Award of the German Cardiac Society. His publications have been cited > 15.000 times. He serves in several medical societies and as member of the editorial board of scientific journals including the European Heart Journal, Cardiovascular Research, Basic Research in Cardiology, Clinical Research in Cardiology, and he is active in national and European research consortia.
