Reto Asmis is a professor, associate dean, and industry consultant with more than 20 years of experience establishing, leading, and growing innovative life sciences programs in the United States and Europe, as well as developing and commercializing promising biomedical products. As a professor with tenure in at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA), Dr. Asmis directs federally funded basic, biomedical, and translational interdisciplinary research programs in cardiovascular biology, vascular imaging, and nutrition. Dr. Asmis maintains multiple national and international collaborations and has mentored and trained numerous undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty. He is on the editorial board of four international scientific journals and currently chairs the NIH Study Section on Arteriosclerosis and Inflammation of the Cardiovascular System. In August 2012, Dr. Asmis was named UTHSCSA’s Associate Dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, responsible for the development and management of 21 existing and new graduate programs totaling an annual enrollment of more than 360 students. He is the Chair of the Research Council at the School of Health Profession, the Associate Director of the Biomedical Engineering Program, a joint program between UTHSCSA and the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), and the Program Director of the new Integrated Biomedical Sciences Program (IBMS) at UTHSCSA. Dr. Asmis is also a founding shareholder and Chief Scientific Advisor for EO2 Concepts, Inc., a San Antonio-based advanced wound care technology company.
