EAS 2017 Prague welcomes a distinguished international faculty to share their pioneering perspectives on the latest developments in basic research and clinical practice in atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. It is our pleasure to introduce the members of the EAS 2017 Prague faculty taking part in the Congress' Plenary session "THE BIOLOGY OF TRIGLYCERIDES REVISITED", Tuesday April 25, 2017 between 08:30 and 10:30.


Tobias C. Walther, Boston, USA
Cellular metabolism - Balancing the fat: lipid droplets and human disease

Professor of Genetics and Complex Diseases, Harvard School of Public Health, and Professor of Cell Biology, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA. His research is focused on understanding the mechanisms of lipid and membrane homeostasis in cells and organisms.

Gary F. Lewis
Synthesis of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins - Gut, liver, brain triad and triglyceride homeostasis

Full Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Physiology, University of Toronto and Professor Lewis holds the Sun Life Financial Chair in Diabetes and the Drucker Family Chair in Diabetes Research.  Dr. Lewis’ research focuses on elucidating the mechanisms of blood fat abnormalities in diabetes and prediabetic states.

Marja-Riitta Taskinen, Helsinki, Finland
Turnover of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins - Regulators of triglyceride turnover

Marja-Riitta Taskinen is Emerita Professor of Medicine at the Cardiovascular Research Group, Heart and Lung Centre, at Helsinki University Central Hospital. Her research team, focuses on lipoprotein kinetics in health and lipid disorders and the genetics of familial dyslipidemias.

Robert A. Hegele, Ontario, Canada
Novel treatment of hypercholesterolaemia - Demystifying the management of hypercholesterolaemia

Robert Hegele is Distinguished University Professor of Medicine and Biochemistry, Western University, and Director of the Lipid Genetics Clinic and the London Regional Genomics Centre at Robarts Research Institute. His research is focused on understanding the genetic basis of atherosclerosis, dyslipidaemia and type 2 diabetes.

Apply for a Young Investigator Fellowship!

EAS encourages the development of the field by providing support to the next generation of scientists and clinicians – to enable them to further their careers by attending the Congress. Young Investigator Fellowships will be awarded to selected poster and oral communication presenters aged 35 or under, on a competitive basis.

Travel grants will be awarded to selected presenters of poster or oral communications who work or study in countries where funding for travel to international meetings is difficult to obtain.
