This is a message to all EAS members from Professor Ulrike Beisiegel and Professor John Chapman
Welcome to EAS 2010 Hamburg
As Local Congress Chairperson and EAS President it gives us great pleasure to invite EAS members to attend the 78th EAS Congress in Hamburg, 20-23 June, 2010. The Scientific Programme Committee, the EAS Executive Committee, and the Scientific Session Chairpersons have made a special effort to compile a programme with outstanding plenary speakers, workshops and poster sessions, incorporating the most interesting and cutting-edge topics.
These topics reflect not only current dynamic progress in our knowledge of the pathophysiology of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease at the cellular and molecular levels, but also exciting advances in new approaches to the diagnosis and prevention of these diseases whose importance to public health continues to expand at alarming speed.

Poster discussions
Reinforcing scientific exchange and networking
A major goal of the Congress is to facilitate and reinforce exchange and networking between basic and clinical researchers, as well as to stimulate discussion between experienced colleagues and young investigators.
For this reason, we have designated two time slots, one on Monday late afternoon and a second on Tuesday, for the discussion of selected posters. In a new initiative, these discussions will be chaired by senior scientists and clinicians of our Society; both sessions will include a complimentary buffet and beverages.
These events will be located in the centre of the Exhibition area and in this way we expect to stimulate extensive scientific exchange not only with poster presenters, but also with our partners from industry. |

Special lecture – the Anitschkow Award
As the special highlight of the Congress this year, the Anitschkow Award will be awarded to Nobel laureate, Prof. Michael S. Brown (Southwestern Medical School, Dallas, USA) who will give the Award lecture during the Opening session on Sunday evening, June 20th. We are delighted to be able to present this outstanding lecture.

 | | “Early fee” deadline is 28th February 2010
Importantly, the Executive Committee of the EAS has decided to offer substantial reductions in registration fees for EAS members and Young Investigators at our Congress. We hope that, in spite of the economic situation, many EAS members will come and join us in Hamburg.

Hamburg – easy to get there, easy to get around
The Congress will be held in the modern and stylish Hamburg Congress Centre, located in the centre of the city, with most hotels within walking distance. Most social activities are also within walking distance, either in the adjacent park or at the wonderful Alster-lake. The Congress Centre is immediately adjacent to the major train station and 20 minutes from the Hamburg International Airport, thus allowing extremely rapid and practical access
Finally, we should like to express our warm appreciation to our Corporate partners who are supporting the Congress. We look forward to seeing all of you for an exciting, enjoyable and convivial Congress this summer in Hamburg!
Warm regards,
Ulrike Beisiegel, Dr. Prof.
Congress President
John Chapman, Prof.
