Antonis Zampelas PhD is Associate Professor of Human Nutrition at the Agricultural University of Athens. Previously he was Assistant Professor of Human Nutrition and Director of the Professional Training Year in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Harokopio University in Athens Greece. Born 1964, he received his PhD degree in Nutrition from the Centre of Nutrition and Food Safety, School of Biological Sciences, University of Surrey, UK in 1993. Before returning to Greece, Dr Zampelas worked for the University of Surrey and also as Senior Scientific Officer for the UK Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. He has been involved in numerous trials and projects related to the effects of diet on parameters influencing the development of coronary heart disease. Dr Zampelas' interest is also the development of nutritional educational programs for Greek school children. Dr Zampelas is currently an evaluator of Research Proposals in Nutrition for the European Union funded projects, Vice-Chairman of the Committee of National Drug Administration for the approval of Nutritional Supplements, member of the Scientific Council of the Hellenic Food Safety Agency and member of the Hellenic National Committee on Nutritional Policy. He was a member of the organizing committee for the 71st EAS, held in Athens in 1999. He is an EAS member and is also secretary of the executive committee of the Hellenic Society of Lipidiology and Atherosclerosis. Dr Zampelas is co-editor of 3 text books, co-author of 15 text-book chapters and has contributed to 55 peer reviewed publications in international scientific journals. |
