Aims and Focus

The European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS) was founded in 1964, with the aim of “advancing and exchanging knowledge concerning the causes, natural history, treatment and prevention of atherosclerotic disease” – work it continues today, in areas including myocardial infarction, cerebro- and peripheral vascular disease.

Atherosclerosis is set to become an increasingly important concern as European populations grow older. For this reason the EAS has joined forces with other societies working in the field of atherosclerosis prevention and others searching for cures for the disease. Our common goal is to provide a framework for scientific discussion of new developments in basic research, diagnosis and therapy of atherosclerosis.

The EAS will be Europe's resource for expertise in these areas as well as in inherited lipid disorders, which are important causes of early atherosclerosis. With our partner societies, we
will promote European prevention projects and approach governments for support.
